Prof. Dr. Simonetta Gribaldo (France) is a senior researcher and head of the Unit Evolutionary Biology of the Microbial Cell at the Institute Pasteur (Paris, France). Her group combines in silico and experimental work to investigate major cellular evolutionary transitions across the Tree of Life. Recent work focuses on the evolution of the cell envelope in both Bacteria and Archaea. In particular, she investigates the transition between Gram-negative and Gram-positive envelope architectures in bacteria, and the emergence of cell walls made of peptidoglycan in archaeal methanogens.
