Julia Vorholt is Professor of Microbiology at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Her laboratory focuses on the understanding and engineering of microbiomes, one-carbon metabolism and endosymbioses. The group performs functional analyses across scales, from molecules and proteins to cells, microbiomes and host-microbe interactions. Her team uses multidisciplinary approaches, including metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, microscopy, metabolic engineering, modelling and novel nanotechnology tools for single-cell analysis. Together, these approaches reveal principles underlying microbial life and open routes to applications in biotechnology and sustainability.
