structure elucidation of novel peptide antibiotics, investigation of biosynthetic pathways of peptide natural products, ribosomal & non-ribosomal peptide biosynthesis, chemical synthesis of peptide drugs (albicidin, amanitin, phalloidin), medicinal chemistry and pharmakokinetics, microorganisms as biocatalysts, combinatorial biosynthesis, mutational biosynthesis, precursordirected biosynthesis, polysulfon-based membranes and modifications for medicinal applications
